About us
The Lake Placid Showcase was founded by Matt Lorito (Brown '15) and Paul Carey (Boston College '12). The idea was born out of a passion for giving back to the game and helping the next generation of student athletes reach their goals. Having experienced firsthand the journey from youth hockey to the professional level, they recognized how pivotal recruiting events can be in shaping opportunities for young players. With that in mind, they set out to create a showcase that not only highlights talent on the ice, but also provides athletes and their families with the tools, exposure, and connections needed to navigate the college hockey recruiting process.
By leveraging their playing experience and network of NCAA coaches, they designed the event to ensure that driven players—regardless of background—could be seen, guided, and inspired to pursue their dreams of playing at the collegiate level while preparing for life beyond the rink.

Matt Lorito
Co-Founder
After a standout collegiate career at Brown University, Lorito began his professional journey with the Albany Devils in the AHL after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He quickly established himself as a top scorer and point producer leading the Devils in scoring in his rookie year. He made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings in 2017 and recorded an assist.
Lorito played 6 successful seasons in the AHL for teams including the Grand Rapids Griffins, with whom he won the Calder Cup in 2017, as well as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Toronto Marlies, San Diego Gulls, and Hartford Wolf Pack—amassing 215 points in 283 career AHL games and earning selections to the AHL All-Star Game in 2017 and 2018. Matt also gained international experience in Sweden (Djurgårdens IF), Russia (Dinamo Riga), and Germany (Grizzlys Wolfsburg) before retiring to become a Pro Scout with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2023.
Known for his skill and hockey IQ, Matt’s journey from junior and NCAA hockey to the professional ranks reflects the hard work, dedication and passion required to reach hockey’s highest levels.
Paul Carey

A two time NCAA National Championship winner with the Boston College Eagles, Paul Carey went on to play 10 seasons of professional hockey. Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1988, Carey was drafted 135th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Over seven NHL seasons, Carey appeared in 100 regular-season games for the Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, and Boston Bruins, recording 8 goals and 8 assists for 16 points. He also played pivotal roles in the American Hockey League, serving as a top scorer and leader for teams like the Providence Bruins, Hershey Bears, and Lake Erie Monsters. Carey concluded his playing career with Djurgårdens IF in the SHL where he and Matt would become team mates and close friends. After his playing career, Paul served as a graduate assistant coach with Boston College for a year before starting his own skills coaching business in the Boston area.
The longevity of Paul's career is not only a testament to his playing ability, but also his character and discipline.
